So, as Deyen gets older, there are things: books & movies, that I really want him to hear (or read) and see. One of these is The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. Well, we just finished reading it tonight! What a blast! It really is amazing how simple and delightful that story is to read, not just to yourself, but out loud to another as well.
I was told by a number of people that 4 or 5 is too young to be able to appreciate the book; also that we would have to edit out some of the scarier bits. I have this to say: not true! There was one part in the whole book, maybe a paragraph towards the end, where Deyen himself covered his ears and didn’t listen, and it is a scary part, but not because it is graphic or what-not, but I think because it is incredibly sad and hard to listen to. Other than that, he loved it all and was very excited to finally meet Aslan in the book about half of the way through. So, if you are thinking of reading this book to your child, then know that 4 or 5 is not too young an age for them to enjoy it. But more than anything, you the parent will know best what your child can or cannot handle. Use your common sense and judge accordingly. You just might be surprised!
