BIOGRAPHY - At Sanctuary, Keren Elumir cares for the health of the community physical, but also emotional and spiritual health. From foot washing to dressings or stitch removal, Keren provides open, caring medical attention. At drop-in programs, on the street, and at a weekly health clinic, Keren listens and attends to the needs of the community.
Keren has more than eight years experience in unique health care situations. Working with International Teams from 1992 to 1995 in Romania, she provided nursing care for street kids and taught basic health care in an orphanage. There, she discovered her love for people carrying emotional scars and facing poverty.
In 1995, Keren returned from Romania and worked in Toronto at the Centre for Student Missions, coordinating inner-city youth missions. While working there, she built a relationship with the staff at Sanctuary. In 1997, she joined Sanctuary to bring her health care experience into the community.
Keren graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1991 from Lake Superior State University in Michigan. She was commissioned by Riverside Bible Chapel in Sault Ste. Marie in 1992. She is married to Errol Errol, who partners with her on some of the street outreach.
As a nurse, I can reach intimately into the lives of those who are ill or injured and care for the whole person, rather than just changing the bandages. Here I can offer God's mercy first, so that hurting people may find the courage to face the truth and finally experience healing and forgiveness.
