BIOGRAPHY - In Alan's role as Managing Director, he is responsible to work closely with Greg Paul in overseeing much of the everyday operation of Sanctuary. Alan's particular focus is in the area of administration ­ working on such things as budgeting, volunteer co-ordination and the nuts-and-bolts of program development.

Prior to joining the Sanctuary staff, Alan had spent 17 years with R.G. Mitchell Family Books, a chain of Christian bookstores in Southern Ontario. There his high-school part-time job evolved into a full-blown career as he ultimately served his final four years as the Director of Retail Operations, overseeing all aspects of the operation of the five Mitchell's stores.

Alan and his wife, Colleen, have been involved in various facets of the Sanctuary community since its very beginnings at which point they were mere newlyweds. Since then, they have welcomed four children into their family: Aidan, Zachary, Cassidy and Declan. As well, Alan served as a member of the Board of Directors for several years prior to joining the staff, and also as one of the leaders of the Sanctuary church.
